Background:

The GF&G Club Youth Archery Program is modeled after the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP®) and was developed to achieve specific educational benefits of improved motivation, attention, focus, behavior, and to support wildlife conservation. NASP® is the largest youth archery program in history and currently serves over 2 million archers.

Program Structure:

GF&G Club instructors are NASP® Trained and Certified as NASP® Basic Archery Instructors. Our instructors will lead classes which include set up, operation, and supervision of a safe archery range. The archery curriculum will be modeled after NASP® recommendations and will consist of training that is comprehensive and current. Over the course of the program students will learn:

1. The basics of equipment and range overview, how make a string bow training aid, and the eleven steps to archery success. Students will receive positive coaching and, most importantly, learn safety.

2. Individual coaching and instruction for shooting refinement.

3. Fun and friendly competition through games and contests.

Equipment:

All equipment will be provided! The archery equipment used in the NASP® is highly standardized to be safe, durable, economical, and most importantly, a universal fit for almost every student. The only bow used is the Genesis® compound bow that has no let-off and is adjustable from 10-20 pounds in draw weight at any draw length. Only full-length aluminum arrows are used and to preserve NASP®’s perfect safety record. Finally, students are taught to shoot at an international 80-centimeter target face. While students start learning at a distance of 5 yards, we will move to more competitive distances of up to 15 yards. Prerequisite: All students must sign a waiver and be able to safely hold and pull a 10 lb. draw bow.
